How fast can I get my devices?

For all items in stock, we aim to dispatch your order within 1-2 days. Shipping times are shown at checkout after you enter your address.

Does LightBug install the devices?

No, we do not install the tracking devices.

Which countries do LightBug products work in?

A full list of countries is available here. If your country is not on the list, please contact us for a customised quote. Our SIM cards can roam across many networks in different countries and will pick the network with the strongest signal, rather than being tied to a single operator.

Will it cost me extra to use my tracker abroad?

There is no extra cost for using the device in any of the countries listed here.

Will the devices work straight out of the box?

The devices arrive ready to use, there is no assembly required; however, you will need to charge and activate your tracker.

What comes in the box?

The LightBug Zero comes with a USB charging cable and a keyring for attachment. The LightBug Pro is just the device; the wireless charger is not included.

What wireless chargers are compatible with the LightBug Pro?

The Pro device is compatible with all standard and fast charge Qi Wireless Chargers.

What do the devices cost? Is there a discount if I order more than one?

Prices are listed on each product page. We offer bulk discounts for orders of 10 or more devices. Please get in touch if you require a quote.

Why do I need a data plan/subscription?

Our trackers work by locating themselves using GPS and Wi-Fi networks. In order to communicate this information to the mobile app and web portal a mobile network is needed. As with any mobile network, there is a cost for data usage. The fee isn't just for the SIM card though, it also covers data storage (our cloud costs), app usage and unlimited support.

How does the subscription work? Is there a minimum contract duration?

Subscription fees are collected automatically for active devices on your account at the start of every billing period. This can be monthly, quarterly or yearly based on your selection. You can cancel this subscription at any time to stop automatic renewal and also reactivate devices at a later date if needed. Subscription fees are all-inclusive: a single fee covers cloud data storage, app / portal access, SIM card data plan, support and API. You sign up to the data plan when you activate your device via the app or from the web-portal.

How much is the subscription?

The Unlimited Data Plan will allow you to get as many updates as often as you need them. You might just need to charge your device more often!

The Standard Data Plan will allow for up to 6 location updates per day and motion detection feature will be disabled. This plan is designed for long term asset tracking.

Are you able to produce custom devices?

Yes we can, we love being surprised by the new and innovative uses for our tracking technology! So, if our devices don’t exactly fit your requirements, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do.

Do you offer sample/demo devices?

We do not currently offer sample devices, the quickest way to get one would be to place an order on our website.

Is there a LightBug API?

Yes, and we are happy to assist with custom integrations. To get started, see our RESTful API documentation and example client integrations. For assistance or more information, drop us a message!

Can I use my own SIM Card and/or server?

Unfortunately not, SIM cards in LightBug devices are non-replaceable. All data transmitted by the devices is encrypted and needs to be processed on LightBug servers. We do however provide an API for retrieving data and controlling devices.

Do I need to install any software?

The easiest way to interact with our devices is through the App (available in app stores) but you don’t need to download any software to monitor your device. You can view and manage your devices using our web portals using any web browser.

What is your return policy?

We’re sure that you will love our devices, but should you find the device is not for you, you are free to return it at your own expense within 14 days of receipt for a full refund (minus postage). If there is a problem with the device we'll cover all postage costs. For further details, please see our extended policy or contact us.

Are the LoRa devices available for purchase yet?

Unfortunately not - we are currently trialling these devices with selected partners and are no longer accepting new pilot applications. Get in touch if you'd like to be kept updated, alternatively, check back soon!

How does it work?

LightBug devices work by locating themselves using GPS, Wi-Fi and GSM. It then communicates that information to the mobile app and web portals over the mobile phone network, so it works anywhere in the world. You don't even need to be in the same country to track it!

What is the difference between the LightBug Pro and LightBug Zero?

The LightBug Pro and Zero are both have the same features and functions, the only differences are the battery life, waterproofing and the size of the devices. The Pro has a longer battery life and a more rugged (IP67) enclosure; so it tends to be better suited to industrial applications or vehicle tracking. The Pro also has more mounting options.

How do you attach the trackers?

This depends on the use of your tracker. For suggestions, please get in contact us with us. The LightBug Pro has the option for a magnetic or adhesive mount.

How long will the battery last?

The battery life of the device depends on your required settings. The best way to find out the estimated battery life is to your our battery life calculator on our website

How long do the devices take to charge?

A full charge on the LightBug Zero should be achieved in 2 hours. For the LightBug Pro, charging times vary depending on the wireless charging that is being used, so before initial use, we recommend charging the device overnight.

Can the devices be turned on/off?

There is no on/off button, but if you no longer need the device, you can cancel your subscription at any time and reactivate devices at a later date. You can also lock your device in sleep mode for up to 24 hours, which will temporarily disable location updates when moving.

Do the devices need internet to work?

Each device works by sending information via the internet. Our SIM cards can roam across many networks in different countries and will pick the network with the strongest signal, rather than being tied to a single operator. Our devices do not work so well in remote areas with little/no cell coverage, as they need the internet to connect.

Do the devices have Bluetooth connectivity?

The latest version of our devices does not feature Bluetooth, but we are working on reintroducing Bluetooth back into our devices. Please contact us if you would like further information on this.

Are the devices waterproof?

Yes, all of our products are IP66 or IP67 rated. See product technical specification for more information.

Do the devices work indoors?

Our trackers work both indoors and outdoors. They use GPS to locate themselves outdoors and WPS (WiFi Positioning System) when indoors. Typical accuracy outdoors is 1-3m, and 10-30m indoors.

Do the trackers need to be exposed?

Our trackers do not need to be fully exposed; however, they do not work well when fully surrounded by metal as this blocks the signals.

Can the devices operate in extreme weather conditions?

The devices have an operating temperature of -20°C to 60°C. In both the extremely higher and lower temperatures the LightBug Zero’s battery life may be affected. We do have devices operating in the Middle East.

Do the devices work in remote/poor signal areas?

Our devices do not work so well in remote areas with little to no cell coverage, as they need the internet to connect. Luckily, with over 600 network partners globally, this is a rare occurrence!

Can I monitor the tracker from multiple devices?

Yes, it is possible to monitor the tracker from multiple devices. You will just need to be logged into the same account.

Are you able to produce custom devices?

What wireless chargers are compatible with the LightBug Pro?

The App is available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
Business customers and advanced users, there is also a fleet managment portal available at lightbug.cloud

Do I need to install any software?

No, you don’t need to download any software to monitor your device. You can view and manage your devices using our Pro portal or our App.

Can I obtain a VAT invoice?

Yes, please contact us and we’ll be happy to provide you with one.

Can I take my tracker to another country?

Yes, our devices work in over 160 countries, a full list is available here.

How do I know when to charge the device?

The side menu of the App and Web Portal displays the battery status by 4 bars. By default, an alert will be triggered when the battery level is below 25%. It is important to note that that the battery level is sent along with every location update, meaning if your last location update was 2 days ago, the battery status you are seeing is what it was 2 days ago!

Why won’t my device charge?

It may be worth resetting your device, the steps are shown below. If your LightBug Pro is not charging make sure you align the tracker so that the centre of the coil is directly on the centre of the charging pad, further guidance on this can be found on page 8 of the user manual.

How do I create a GPS Safe-Zone?

Please refer to page 16 – 20 of the user manual which will guide you through how to create a geographical safe zone for your tracker

Can I create multiple Wi-Fi safe zones?

It is only possible to set up one Wi-Fi safe-zone at the moment.

How do I reset my device?

You can reset your tracker by pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds. Performing this reset will not affect your settings.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time to stop automatic renewal and also reactivate devices at a later date if needed from our admin portal on the App or web portal For a step by step guide, see pages 64-65 in the user manual.

What if there’s a problem with my device?

Please contact us at support@thelightbug.com and we’ll try our best to resolve the issue. Each tracker comes with a 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects.

What is your return policy?

We’re sure that you will love our devices, but should you find the device is not for you, you are free to return it at your own expense within 14 days of receipt for a full refund (minus postage). Is there a warranty on the devices?

Yes, all devices are covered with 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects where we will send you a new replacement tracker and cover the expenses of sending any faulty trackers back.
